Polls: Cong starts ‘Let’s Save Assam’ campaign

GUWAHATI: Ahead of Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Assam on February 14, opposition congress has started “(Let’s Save Assam) campaign which involves bus journey from different places of the state and meeting the people. On Friday a journey by bus started from Bordowa Thaan, the birthplace of Srimanta Sankardeva, the 15th century saint and social reformer. Rahul will address a public rally on February 14 in Sivasagar.Lok Sabha MP and Congress Campaign Committee Chairman, Pradyut Bordoloi along with All India Congress Committee General Secretary Jitendra Singh, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) chief Ripun Bora, Congress Manifesto Committee Chairman Gaurav Gogoi started the journey. “We will reach-out to every house hold through this yatra and appeal to every person to support Congress party to save Assam from being destroyed by the BJP and its cronies’. We will interact with diverse sections of the society to understand their issues and problems,” said Bordoloi. Jitendra Singh said, “The aim of this Yatra is to listen to every section of the society: poor, women, youth, unemployed and people from every walk of life. Many sections of the society are coming forward to share their issues and concerns with the Congress party through this Yatra.” APCC President Ripun Bora said , “The BJP has failed on its 2016 promise to protect community, identity and honour of Assam. The Congress government under leadership of Tarun Gogoi had worked really hard to bring stability and peace in Assam. The BJP wants to push Assam into turbulence through their divisive agenda but we will not let it happen.” Addressing the gathering at launch of Yatra, Gogoi asserted that all round development, the hallmark of Tarun Gogoi’s tenure, will be back in the State as Congress forms the next government. “The people of Assam have been put to torture by the BJP government on economic, sociological and environment front. We will listen to everyone through this yatra and ensure every section of the society is taken along the path of peace and prosperity again”. Congress Legislature party leader Debabrata Saikia also launched the second Yatra from Sivasagar.
